Women’s marathon world record shattered by Ethiopian runner Tigst Assefa

Tigst Assefa beats the women of the world record by more than 2 minutes Sunday at the Berlin Marathon, to Eliud Kipchoge for the races for the fifth time, but could not break his own record.

Ethiopian runner Assefa, the winner in Berlin last year, ran 2 hours, 11 minutes, 53 seconds to break the previous women’s record of 2:14:04 set by Brigid Kotsgei at the Chicago Marathon in 2019.

Kipchoge ran alone from 32 kilometers (20 miles) onward slowed slightly towards the end. His stay of 2 hours, 2 minutes, 42 seconds is an hour and an hour and beyond memory I have been in Berlin for years.

Kipchoge broke the 2-hour barrier in Vienna in 2019 when he ran 1:59:40 but it was not officially considered the world record. I am running in the event that this does not conform to the regulations because and the tailored between his time, s groups of pacemakers and drinks delivered by a cyclist.

The German environmental group Last Generation had signaled it intended to disrupt the Berlin Marathon. Police and security personnel prevented a group of people from blocking the route shortly before the start of the race and orange paint was splashed across the road.
